Shikishima Falls, often called the "Niagara of Hokkaido," is a powerful waterfall located in the Tenninkyo Onsen area of Higashikawa Town. This impressive cascade features a 25-meter drop and spans 60 meters in width. To reach the falls, visitors can walk approximately 15 minutes from the Tenninkyo public parking area to Hagoromo Falls, and then another 15 minutes upstream along the Chubetsu River. Note that as of June 2012, part of the trail from Hagoromo Falls to Shikishima Falls was closed due to bridge damage from heavy rains, so it's advisable to check current conditions before visiting. The falls offer a spectacular display of nature's force and are best viewed during the day.
