Seichoji Temple

Overview

Seichoji Temple, one of the four sacred sites of the Nichiren sect, is located in Kamogawa, Chiba. Founded in 771, it's where Nichiren entered the priesthood and later declared the establishment of the Nichiren sect. The temple features historic Edo-period buildings and a famous, over 1000-year-old giant cedar tree. Note that the road leading to Seichoji Temple can be narrow, requiring careful driving. It's a serene place to explore, especially if you're interested in religious history and nature. Allow about an hour to fully appreciate the grounds, including the Buddha Relic Pagoda and Nichiren Saint Bronze Statue.
