Mount Kuju, also known as Kuju-san, is part of the Kuju Mountain Range in Oita Prefecture and is listed as one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. The peak stands at 1,787 meters and offers panoramic views, especially of the Aso volcanic range. Access is convenient via the JR Kyudai Main Line to Bungo-Nakamura Station, then a bus to Kuju Tozanguchi, followed by a walk to Makinoto Pass and a 2-hour hike to the summit.
