Daiōji Temple, founded by the venerable Taichō Daishi, the priest who opened Hakusan, is a Shingon sect temple. According to legend, Awazu Onsen began when the deity of Hakusan appeared as the eleven-faced Kannon Bodhisattva, instructing to dig a spiritual spring in Awazu to help the people. At that time, Taichō Daishi left behind a small Yakushi Nyorai that he wore around his neck and a Sho Kanzeon Bosatsu that he carved himself as guardian deities, marking the beginning of Daiōji Temple. The temple grounds, often covered in ginkgo leaves, offer a charming atmosphere. It's a wonderful sight to behold, reminiscent of temples in Kamakura. Located on the mountain side of the hot spring town, it is a small temple associated with Taichō Daishi, the founder of Awazu Onsen. A statue of Taichō Daishi is also present. It is ideal for a stroll along with the adjacent Hakusan Shrine. Although the autumn leaves have passed, the approach is covered with fallen leaves, creating a late autumn atmosphere.
