Shohoji Temple

Overview

Shohoji Temple, established in 1575, is a Jodo sect temple located near the Ouchijuku vista point. It served as a supply station and aid center for the New Government Army during the Boshin War. While the temple itself may appear modest, it offers a less steep path to the Ouchijuku overlook compared to the main stone steps. Many visitors find it a peaceful alternative route, especially during snowy conditions when the stairs are closed. Though not a major tourist attraction, it provides a glimpse into the area's history and a quieter moment amidst the bustling Ouchijuku.
