Shiroizumi Temple, also known as Shiroizumi-dera, is located in Setoguchi, Yunomae Town, Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture. This historic temple features the Amida Hall, a rare example of early Kamakura period architecture and considered the oldest wooden structure in Kumamoto. Within the hall is a national treasure, the Amida Nyorai statue. The temple grounds also include a moss-covered seven-tiered stone pagoda and a nine-tiered stone pagoda, both dating back to 1230 and designated as important cultural properties. While the temple disappeared during the Meiji era, the remaining structures offer a glimpse into Japan's rich history and are well worth a visit for those interested in ancient architecture and Buddhist art.
