Nishiyama Villa

Overview

Visit Nishiyama Villa, the retirement home of Tokugawa Mitsukuni, also known as Mito Komon, located in Hitachiota City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Here, Mitsukuni dedicated his later years to compiling the "Great History of Japan." The current structure, rebuilt in 1819, features a thatched-roof building with simple, unadorned rooms. Explore the serene gardens, which offer beautiful seasonal views, including plum blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, vibrant foliage in autumn, and snowscapes in winter. The villa is accessible by bus or taxi from Hitachiota Station, or by car from the Naka or Hitachi-Minamiota ICs. Open from 9:00 to 16:00, with an admission fee of ¥780 for adults and ¥580 for children.
