The Kesennuma City East Japan Great Earthquake Remains Memorial Museum is a poignant reminder of the 2011 tsunami. Located in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, the museum preserves the remains of the former Kesennuma Koyo High School, which was heavily damaged by the disaster. Visitors can explore the preserved school building and learn about the events of the earthquake and tsunami through exhibits and a video theater. The museum also features outdoor facilities like a playground and dog run. It's open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM (April-September) and 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM (October-March), closed on Mondays (except when Monday is a holiday, then closed the following day), the day after national holidays (excluding weekends and Golden Week), and during the New Year holidays (December 29 - January 4).
