The Ōmura Burial Caves, a nationally designated historic site, are located just behind JR Hitoyoshi Station. These ancient tombs, dating back to the late Kofun period (6th-7th centuries), feature 27 horizontal cave tombs carved into the cliff face. Some caves are adorned with carvings of weaponry, geometric patterns, and animals. While you can't enter the caves, the site offers a unique glimpse into ancient burial practices and is easily accessible for a quick visit, especially for those waiting for train connections. The caves are located a short walk from the station's north exit and offer scenic views of Hitoyoshi.
