The Meiji Emperor Landing Memorial marks the spot where Emperor Meiji first set foot in Mori after arriving by sea from Muroran in 1881. Located near JR Mori Station, the monument is uniquely situated in the sea, commemorating the era when sea routes connected Mori to other parts of Hokkaido. While you can't approach the monument directly, it's visible from the train as you arrive at or depart from Mori Station. Look for the remnants of the pier's pilings during low tide. It's a quick and interesting historical glimpse into Hokkaido's past, easily viewed from the train or a short walk from the station.
