The Henashizaki Lighthouse, read as "Henashizaki Toudai," is located near the central part of the peninsula jutting out into the Sea of Japan in Fukaura Town, Nishitsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture. Completed in 1941, this approximately 20-meter tall lighthouse is said to be the largest in the northern Sea of Japan. While the grounds are typically closed and surrounded by vegetation, the lighthouse is easily accessible, about a 10-minute walk from JR Henashizaki Station, making it possibly the closest lighthouse to a train station in Japan. Nearby attractions include the Furofushi Onsen hot spring and the Wespa Tsubakiyama resort. Consider a quick visit if you're in the area.
