Ishikari Bentensha Shrine, founded in 1694, is the oldest building in Ishikari City. Historically revered by those involved in the salmon fishing industry, it is dedicated to maritime safety. The shrine enshrines Benten, the goddess of wealth and music, along with Myokohokame, a deified shark spirit from the Ishikari River. Located in Benten Historical Park, the shrine is adjacent to other historical sites. The Ishikari Sake Festival in late September brings lively crowds and open access to the shrine's interior. Note that viewing the Myokohokame statue is restricted.
