Minamata Castle Ruins

Overview

Explore the historic Minamata Castle Ruins, now a serene park located in Kumamoto Prefecture. Though the castle was dismantled before the one-castle-per-province decree, recent archaeological finds, including stone walls and inscribed roof tiles, offer glimpses into its past. Today, visitors can enjoy the grounds as Shiroyama Park, featuring walking paths, a playground, and an observation point. The park also houses the only remaining structure, a well, near the site of the main enclosure. Easily accessible from Minamata Station by bus or Shin-Minamata Station by car, it's a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll and a touch of history.
