Dashidaira Dam is a concrete gravity dam completed in 1985, and is one of the newest dams in the Kurobe River system. It's best viewed from the Kurobe Gorge Railway (Torokko Train) as it passes near the Dashidaira Station. The dam is known for its emerald-green reservoir and the rugged cliffs of the surrounding mountains. The dam features a unique sediment discharge gate, the first of its kind in Japan. The best views are from the right side of the train when heading towards Keyakidaira. The dam's hydroelectric plant powers electricity sent throughout the region.
