Lake Biwa

Overview

Lake Biwa, named for its resemblance to the biwa instrument, is a scenic spot in Shiga Kogen. The "Sunshine Trail Course," a 90-minute walk around the white birch forest on the lake's shore, is particularly beautiful in autumn. The lake is located in Shiga Kogen, Yamanouchi Town, Nagano Prefecture. It's accessible by a 35-minute drive from Shinshu Nakano IC followed by a 20-minute walk, or a 26-minute bus ride from Yudanaka Station on the Nagano Electric Railway Nagano Line, also followed by a 20-minute walk. The lake covers 16.8 hectares and sits at an altitude of 1390m, with parking available. Be aware of possible bear sightings.
