Hokke-ji Temple, located near Suwa Taisha Upper Shrine, is a Zen Buddhist temple with a rich history. It's known as the place where Oda Nobunaga stayed during his conquest of Koshu, and where his relationship with Akechi Mitsuhide deteriorated, contributing to the Honno-ji Incident. The temple features a striking red mountain gate and the grave of Kira Yoshichika, grandson of Kira Kozukenosuke, of Chushingura fame. Visitors can explore the main hall, a serene garden, and the historical grounds. It offers a tranquil contrast to the busier Suwa Taisha Shrine. The temple is easily accessible from the Suwa Taisha Upper Shrine's east parking area.
