Matsumae Shrine, located within Matsumae Park near Matsumae Castle, enshrines Takeda Nobuhiro, an ancestor of the Matsumae clan. Founded in 1881 and rebuilt in 1923 using hinoki cypress, the shrine features a serene atmosphere and a red-roofed main hall. Visitors can explore historical artifacts, including swords, carvings, and old city maps. The shrine is easily accessible from the Matsushiro bus stop (10-minute walk). It's a peaceful spot to appreciate local history and architecture while exploring the castle grounds, especially beautiful during the cherry blossom season.
