The Uchiko-za Theater, built in 1916 to commemorate the enthronement of Emperor Taisho, is a beautifully preserved traditional playhouse in Uchiko. This two-story wooden structure features a classic Japanese design, complete with tatami seating, a revolving stage, trapdoors, and a runway. Visitors can explore the theater, including the backstage areas and even the under-stage "hell." Located a 10-minute walk from Uchiko Station, Uchiko-za offers a glimpse into Japan's theatrical past and occasionally hosts performances. Admission is ¥400 for adults and ¥200 for children. Please note that Uchiko-za is scheduled to close for renovations from autumn 2024.
