Mount Gozen

Overview

Mount Gozen, often called the Arashiyama of the Kanto region, offers stunning natural beauty throughout the year. This 156-meter-high mountain is a treasure trove of nature, where you can encounter rare plants and wild birds in its primeval forests. Located in Shirosato Town, Higashiibaraki District, Ibaraki Prefecture, it's accessible by a 60-minute bus ride from Mito Station or a 30-minute drive from the Mito Interchange. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, including a shorter 3 km course and a longer 10 km option, with the starting point conveniently located at the Katsura roadside station. Explore historical sites like the remains of Gozenyama Castle near the summit, and enjoy panoramic views reminiscent of Kyoto's Arashiyama from across the Naka River.
