Tsumakirishima Shrine, part of the Kirishima Rokusha Gongen, has been revered by locals and the Shimazu clan since the Heian period. Legend says the "Oni-iwa Staircase" was built overnight by a demon; climb it while making a wish without looking back to have it granted. Also known as "Don't Look Back Slope." Don't miss the "God Stone," split into three by a sword. Located a 5-minute walk from Higashi-Takazaki Station on the JR Kitto Line. The shrine features a giant red demon statue at the torii gate and a dragon-shaped branch on a large tree near the main hall. A large camphor tree with a hollow at its base offers blessings for safe childbirth.
