The Spectacles Bridge (Megane-bashi) is Japan's oldest arched stone bridge, built in 1634 over the Nakashima River. Its name comes from its reflection in the water, which creates a spectacle resembling a pair of eyeglasses. Located in Nagasaki City, it's easily accessible by tram to the Kokaido-mae stop, followed by a short walk. As a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, it offers a picturesque scene, especially when the surrounding hydrangeas are in bloom. Visitors can walk along the riverbank and search for heart-shaped stones among the bridge's stonework, adding a touch of romance to their visit. The bridge is a short walk from Shinchi Chinatown, making it easy to combine sightseeing with local cuisine.
Cultural Property: Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property. Construction Period: Late Edo Period
