Gokuraku-ji Temple, the second temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, was founded in the Nara period by the priest Gyoki. It is home to a large sugi (cedar) tree, said to have been planted by Kobo Daishi himself, known as the "Long Life Cedar." The temple's main hall enshrines a wooden Amida Nyorai statue from the Kamakura period, designated as an Important Cultural Property. Located in Naruto, Tokushima, it's easily accessible by bus from Naruto Station or by car from Tokushima Airport. Visitors can explore the grounds freely and admire the historic architecture and serene atmosphere. The temple is also known for its connection to safe childbirth, with many visitors praying for safe delivery.
