Nachi Falls, also known as Nachi Great Falls, is one of Japan's three most famous waterfalls and has been revered for centuries as the sacred body of the Hirō Shrine, an annex of Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range," the falls cascade down 133 meters with a width of 13 meters and a 10-meter-deep basin. Visitors can witness the awe-inspiring sight of the falls plunging from the mountains of Kumano, which are illuminated on New Year's Eve. Located in Nachikatsuura, Wakayama Prefecture, the falls are accessible by bus from Kii-Katsuura Station, approximately a 30-minute ride to the "Taki-mae" bus stop. Don't miss the Shimenawa Rope Replacement Ceremony held annually on July 9th and December 27th.
