Hoiwa-ji Temple, located in Tawaramoto, Nara Prefecture, is a historic Zen temple with roots dating back to 1384. Founded by Ryodo Shinkaku at the request of Toichi Tokoyasu, the lord of Toichi Castle, it is known as the oldest Zen temple (Soto sect) in Yamato. The temple is also significant as a place of study for Zeami, the renowned Noh actor and playwright, who was mentored here.
