Bicchu Kokubunji Temple

Overview

Bicchu Kokubunji Temple, founded in 741 by Emperor Shomu, is a serene historical site easily accessible by car from Soja Station or the Okayama Soja IC. The current buildings were reconstructed in the Edo period after a fire in the Nanbokucho era. Its main attraction is the impressive five-story pagoda, the only one in Okayama Prefecture and designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The temple also features culturally significant structures like the Kuri, Ura-shoin, and Kyozo. Visitors can enjoy the tranquil temple grounds and the surrounding rural landscape, perfect for a peaceful stroll any time of year.
