Shizu Shrine, located in Naka, Ibaraki Prefecture, is a historic and serene destination. As one of the three guardian shrines of the eastern provinces, it is second only to Kashima Shrine in Hitachi Province. The shrine is dedicated to Tatehachichi-no-Mikoto, the deity credited with inventing weaving in Japan. Visitors can explore the peaceful grounds, admire the traditional architecture, and, during the late-spring season, combine their visit with a trip to the adjacent Shizumine Furusato Park, famous for its stunning display of double-flowered cherry trees. The shrine is a 20-minute walk from Shizu Station on the JR Suigun Line, with ample free parking available near the first torii gate. Be prepared for a climb up a long flight of stairs to reach the main hall.
