The Wakasakura Shrine Grand Festival, held biennially on May 2nd and 3rd (though only as a religious service in 2022), is a vibrant celebration of local tradition. Located a 15-minute walk from Wakasa Station on the Wakasa Railway, the festival features a solemn procession with sacred trees, servants, banners, portable shrines, and offerings. Traditional performances like lion dances, masked plays, umbrella decorations, and children's dances add to the spectacle. The highlight is the thrilling ascent of three portable shrines up approximately 200 stone steps illuminated by torches. The shrine itself, founded by the first lord of Wakasa Onigajo Castle, Yabe, offers a serene atmosphere with a green stone-step approach to the main hall.
Annual Visitors: 4,000
