Sunayama Beach

Overview

Sunayama Beach, located approximately 4 kilometers north of Miyakojima City, is renowned for its powdery white sand and naturally sculpted landscape. This compact beach, about 70 meters wide, is accessed via a sandy hill, offering a unique approach through lush, subtropical vegetation. While the beach is picturesque, it's often subject to rough waves and occasional shark sightings, making it more suitable for enjoying the scenery rather than swimming or snorkeling. The iconic arch-shaped rock formation, a result of wave erosion, is a popular photo spot, though access to certain areas may be restricted due to safety concerns. Visitors should be prepared for a short but potentially tiring climb over the sand hill to reach the beach. The best time to visit is on a clear day to fully appreciate the contrast of the blue sea and white sand.
