Its distinctive pointed peak, famously dubbed the "Japanese Matterhorn" by Walter Weston, offers a challenging yet rewarding climb for experienced hikers. Located in Omachi, Nagano Prefecture, the mountain stands at an elevation of 3,180 meters. Reaching the summit requires at least an overnight stay, and hikers should be comfortable with ladders and chains along the trails. The most common route starts from Kamikochi, offering breathtaking views along the way. Alternatively, admire its majestic form from afar at spots like Shin-Hotaka Onsen.
