Located in the heart of Wakanoura, Tamatsushima Shrine is dedicated to the goddesses Wakahirume-no-Mikoto, Sotoorihime-no-Mikoto, and Okinagatarashihime-no-Mikoto, along with the spirit of Meiko Bay. Revered as the "God of Waka poetry," the shrine is historically rich, with connections to Emperor Shomu and the poet Yamabe Akahito. Visitors can explore the shrine's grounds, admire the Man'yo era poetry monuments, and enjoy scenic views of Wakanoura Bay from nearby Mt. Tenkyozan. The shrine is easily accessible by bus from JR Wakayama Station or Nankai Wakayamashi Station. It is known for bestowing blessings for matchmaking, family safety, business prosperity, and general wish fulfillment. Open from 9:00 to 17:00, with prayer services from 10:00 to 16:00.
