The Former Takano Residence, also known as the Licorice Mansion, is a historic site located near Shioyama Station in Koshu, Yamanashi. This well-preserved estate showcases traditional Koshu architecture, featuring a distinctive two-tiered roof. Originally the home of the Takano family, who cultivated licorice for the shogunate during the Edo period, the site includes the main house, storehouse, and east gate, some of which are designated Important Cultural Properties. In autumn, the area is adorned with drying persimmons, adding to its scenic charm. The site offers a glimpse into the life of a wealthy farming family and the region's history.
