Kumagai Temple

Overview

Kumagai Temple, known locally as Yuukokuji, is linked to Kumagai Naozane, a figure from The Tale of Heike. Founded on the site of his hermitage after he became a Buddhist monk, the temple is located behind the Yagihashi Department Store. While the temple grounds are typically closed to the public, the impressive gate and the exterior of the main hall can be viewed from the outside. Note that photography may be restricted. The temple is a 15-minute walk from JR Kumagaya Station.
