Nakashima Brewery, located in the historic Hamashuku brewery district of Kashima, Saga Prefecture, is one of the oldest breweries in the area, founded in 1650. The main building, constructed in the mid-Meiji period, and the inner residence, dating back to the late Edo period, are registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan. Although sake is no longer produced here, the shop offers a selection of local Saga sake, including their signature brand, "Kun'on." Look for the iron ring where horses were once tethered outside the shop. It's a great place to experience the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese sake shop.
