Heisenji Hakusan Shrine, originally founded in 717, was once a major religious center with thousands of monks. Though largely destroyed in the 16th century, the shrine's grounds now feature ancient cedar trees and a stunning carpet of moss, earning it the nickname "Moss Temple of the North." Visitors can explore the serene, moss-covered paths and historical ruins. Allow ample time to walk from the parking area to the main shrine. The best time to visit is after a spring rain to see the moss at its most vibrant. A small donation is suggested for parking.
