Located on Cape Oarai, Oarai Isosaki Shrine is dedicated to the deities Oonamuchi-no-Mikoto and Sukunahikona-no-Mikoto. Known for its grand torii gate (one of the largest in the Kanto region) and its main hall (a designated cultural property of Ibaraki Prefecture), the shrine has long been revered as a guardian of household safety and maritime traffic. Visitors can also see a monument inscribed with haiku by three generations of the Takahama Kyoshi family. Don't miss the iconic Kamiiso no Torii, a gate standing in the sea, accessible via stairs from the shrine (note the need to cross a road). The shrine is easily accessible by bus from Oarai Station or by car, with free admission.
