Explore the historic Tsune Castle Ruins in Tamano, Okayama, offering a glimpse into Japan's feudal past. While the exact founding date is unknown, it's believed that Ueno Tosa-no-kami built it during the Civil War period (1469-87). The castle was later the site of a fierce battle in 1575, when Ueno Takayori sided with Oda Nobunaga against the Mori clan, leading to its fall. Today, visitors can see remnants of stone walls, a well, and the graves of the castle lord and his wife. The site is also known for the tragic tale of Lady Tsuruhime and her 33 female warriors, who fought bravely before their demise. The ruins are accessible via a 90-minute hike from Tsune Station or a short drive from the Mizushima Interchange.
