Ishiyama-dera Temple, founded in the late Nara period, is a significant temple of the Toji Shingon sect and the 13th temple on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. Known as a place where Murasaki Shikibu conceived "The Tale of Genji," it features a large kokei-seki (silicified rock) and beautiful autumn foliage that complements its historic structures, including a national treasure, the Tahoto Pagoda. The temple is also celebrated for its seasonal flowers. Located in Otsu, Shiga, it's accessible by bus or a 10-minute walk from Ishiyamadera Station. Entry fees are ¥600 for adults and high school students, ¥250 for elementary school students, with group discounts available. Visit during the fall for the stunning autumn leaves or any season to enjoy the diverse floral displays.
