Kashima Castle Akamon Gate and Otemon Gate

Overview

Kashima Castle's Akamon (Red Gate) and Otemon Gate are the only remaining structures of the castle, which was largely destroyed in 1874. The Akamon, once the main gate of the inner palace, is now the entrance to Kashima High School. The Otemon Gate stands in its original location, evoking the atmosphere of the former main street. These gates offer a glimpse into the history of the Kashima domain. Located in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture, the site is a short drive from JR Hizen-Kashima Station. It's a great spot to appreciate historical architecture and imagine the castle's past.
