Overview

Explore the Sotayu Kanpu, part of the Sado Kinzan Gold Mine, a historical site in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture. This area showcases the Sotayu Pit, an Edo-era mining tunnel. Visitors can witness realistic recreations of mining operations using mannequins. The mine offers a glimpse into the lives and work of miners during the Edo period. Note that the tunnel involves many stairs, so those with mobility issues should consider this. The internal temperature is cool, even in summer, so bringing a light jacket is recommended. It is accessible by car (60 minutes from Ryotsu Port) or bus (15-minute walk from the Aikawa bus stop).
