Happogahara

Overview

Happogahara is a highland plateau in Nikko National Park, known for its stunning display of approximately 200,000 azalea bushes that bloom in June, painting the landscape in vibrant shades of red. Easily accessible by car from Yaita Station (40 minutes) or the Yaita IC (50 minutes), it offers well-maintained walking trails perfect for hiking throughout the year. The plateau sits at an elevation of 1,000 to 1,200 meters, providing refreshing highland air and panoramic views. Key attractions include the Momiji Line during autumn and the azalea blooms in late spring/early summer. Don't miss the observation point at Oomama for 360-degree views. The visitor center at "Yama no Eki Takahara" offers maps, meals, and souvenirs.
