Ryusendo Cave, one of Japan's three great limestone caves, is located in Iwaizumi, Iwate Prefecture. Famous for its crystal-clear underground lakes, the cave maintains a cool temperature of around 11°C, offering a refreshing escape in summer. Visitors can explore illuminated pathways and marvel at the stunning blue waters of the underground lakes, with the deepest reaching 98 meters. A steep path leads to an observation deck providing panoramic views, though the climb can be challenging. Ryusendo is accessible by bus from Iwaizumi-Omoto Station or Morioka Station, with ample free parking available. Be sure to wear comfortable, non-slip shoes for the sometimes wet and steep cave paths.
