Takisui-dera Dainichibo Temple, located in the mountains of Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, is a historic temple founded by Kobo Daishi. It's renowned as the head temple of the Yudonosan area and is home to a Sokushinbutsu (self-mummified monk), the venerable Shinnyokai Shonin, preserved in remarkable condition. Visitors can explore the impressive Nio Gate, admire numerous Buddhist statues and temple treasures, and learn about the temple's history from the resident priest. The temple played a role as a prayer temple for the Tokugawa family. The temple is particularly beautiful during the autumn foliage season.
