Housenji Onsen is a tranquil hot spring nestled in the mountains of Waita. Legend says it began over 1000 years ago when a traveling monk's staff transformed into a large cedar tree, from which hot spring water flowed after an earthquake. The name "Housenji" comes from a temple built by villagers who considered the spring a "treasure." The area is known for its abundant hot spring water and ryokans with unique open-air baths. Visit late May to early June to witness the fireflies dancing over the Machida River, with weekend events adding to the lively atmosphere.
