Aso Shrine, with over 2,300 years of history, is the head shrine of all Aso Shrines in Japan. Dedicated to Takeiwatatsu no Mikoto, pioneer of Aso, and twelve other deities, it's a significant cultural site. While the shrine suffered damage in the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, restoration efforts are underway, with the impressive two-story gate (Rōmon) expected to be completed by the end of 2023. Visitors can still admire the rebuilt worship hall and explore the grounds. Located in Aso City, Kumamoto, it's accessible by bus from Miyaji Station or by car. The shrine offers a serene atmosphere and a glimpse into ancient traditions.
