The Takahashi Christian Church, built in 1889, is the oldest existing church in Okayama Prefecture and a valuable example of Meiji-era Western architecture. Located in the Kon'ya-machi historical district along the Kon'ya River in Takahashi, it's easily accessible, approximately 15 minutes from Kayo IC on the Okayama Expressway. The church is associated with Jo Niijima, founder of Doshisha University, who visited Takahashi and helped spread Christianity in the area. Visitors can explore the simple yet solemn interior, which retains much of its original Meiji-era structure. The pastel-colored exterior and the serene atmosphere make it a worthwhile stop while exploring the castle town. Note the unique balcony above the entrance and the charming details like the old stove inside.
