Unshoin Temple, located in Goshogawara City, Kanagi Town, is closely associated with the renowned writer Osamu Dazai, who spent time here during his childhood with his nanny, Take. The temple is featured in Dazai's novel "Omoide" (Recollections), and visitors can view the Jūō Mandara (Ten Kings Mandala), a depiction of hell that Dazai saw as a child. The temple grounds feature a bell tower gate and the Tsugaru Daibutsu statue. The main hall houses the harrowing Jigoku-e (hell paintings). Unshoin is a short walk from Dazai's childhood home, Shayokan, and the Tsugaru Shamisen Hall, making it an easy addition to your sightseeing itinerary.
