Sainen-ji Temple, located in Akizuki, Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a historic Jodo Shinshu temple with roots dating back to the late 16th century. Originally the residence of a samurai who entered the priesthood, it was later moved to its current location south of the Akizuki castle. The temple is known as the final resting place of Edo-era poet Hara Kosho and his daughter Saihin, a female poet. Visitors can also find a monument to the poet Takahama Kyoshi. The temple grounds feature a statue of Shinran Shonin, the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect, and a 36-step stone staircase leading up to the temple, making it an accessible and serene place to explore Akizuki's history.
