Takachiho Gorge is a stunning V-shaped canyon formed by the erosion of pyroclastic flows from Mount Aso. The gorge features dramatic 100m-high cliffs and the picturesque Manai Falls, one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls. The best times to visit are during the fresh greenery of spring or the vibrant autumn foliage. Boat rentals are available (approx. ¥4,100-5,100 for 30 minutes, up to 3 people), offering a unique perspective from the river. Located in Takachiho, Miyazaki Prefecture, it's a 10-minute drive or 30-minute walk from Takachiho Bus Center. Parking is available for a fee (¥500).
