Shonenji Temple, located a short walk northeast of Nihonmatsu Station, was founded in the late 12th century and later renamed in the late 13th century. This temple is the final resting place of the Hatakeyama clan, former lords of Nihonmatsu Castle. The temple's history is intertwined with the battles involving Date Masamune. Although rebuilt in the 1960s after several fires, Shonenji houses a Municipal Designated Cultural Property, a relief carving of Amida Triad. Visitors can explore the serene grounds and reflect on the area's rich history. It's a peaceful spot to visit any time of day.
