Muramatsu-san Kokuzo-do Temple

Overview

Muramatsu-san Kokuzo-do Temple is one of Japan's three great Kokuzo temples, enshrining Kokuzo Bosatsu, the deity of wisdom and learning. Located in Tokai Village, Ibaraki Prefecture, it's easily accessible by taxi from Tokai Station or by car from the Joban Expressway. The temple is known for its beautiful grounds, including a five-story pagoda and the Mito Hakkei scenic spot, Muramatsu Seiran. Visitors often come for Hatsumode (New Year's visit) and the Thirteen Pilgrimage. The temple complex features impressive structures like the Niomon Gate, main hall, and a three-story pagoda, along with the nearby Muramatsu Grand Shrine. A visit in the afternoon allows for a leisurely exploration of the temple's historical buildings and serene atmosphere.
